John A White - Artist
John A. White (b 1930 d. 2003) was a New Zealand born artist who lived most of his life in Australia. He was known for his role in the inception of Central Street Gallery in 1966 along side Tony McGillick and Harald Noritis.
His early paintings were in the style known as 'hard edge' abstraction or 'colour field' painting which a small number of Sydney based artists were exploring in the 1960's. The movement led to a landmark survey held at the National Gallery Of Victoria called 'The Field' in 1968 (being revisited in 2018 from April - Aug) which was curated by John Stringer and Royston Harper. White carried on practicing painting throughout his life along side a successful career in advertising running his own companies including Group Marketing and Strategies.
This site showcases some of his most characteristic artworks and some later lesser known works never exhibited.
